Fans urge Rajinikanth to jump into political fray

Event only to discuss fans' meet with superstar'.

Chennai: The calls for superstar Rajinikanth to enter politics emerged with force at his fan club meeting here on Sunday.

A large section of his fans who were gathering at the Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam since 6 am on Sunday were disappointed that they could not get a glimpse of their hero.

But they persisted with standing in the scorching sun demanding that the star come and announce a decision to enter politics.

Rajinikanth fan club’s general secretary Sathyanarayanan had convened the Sunday meeting that was attended by 62 representatives of Rajini fan clubs from across the state.

This preliminary meeting was to discuss the logistics for photo sessions to be held from April 12 to 17 when the superstar will be meeting members of his fan clubs and posing for photographs with them.

According to Sathyanarayanan, the event was being organised for the fans to meet the actor as they had been requesting for such an opportunity for the last eight years.

Organisers, however, denied any political motive behind this decision to arrange a meeting with the superstar and his fans.

“Many of us are expecting Rajinikanth to convey his wish to enter politics when he meets us,” one of his fans said while persisting on the theme of a political entry for the superstar.

The motley crowd of fans of all age groups and from various districts including Madurai and Tirunelveli, waited for long in the hope of seeing the actor and declined to leave despite being told that he would not be coming on Sunday to the venue.

“During the meetings from April 12 we are all going to demand that he launch a political party. We hope to hear this announcement,” another fan said even as rumours are afloat that the BJP is trying its best to convince Rajini to enter politics before the next elections in the State.
