Bengaluru: Insurance regulator to meet truckers today

IRDA authorities have invited us for a meeting on Monday at 3 pm in Hyderabad.

Bengaluru: Supply of commodities including vegetables, rice and LPG will be affected from Monday onwards as petroleum suppliers have decided to join the indefinite protest by truckers.

The strike is expected to badly affect the general public, unless there is any major breakthrough in the Monday’s meeting called by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) in Hyderabad.

G.R. Shanmugappa, General Secretary of South India Motor Transport Association told Deccan Chronicle, “Petrol and diesel lorry transporters' association has joined the strike and 4,000 vehicles carrying LPG and fuel are off the road from Sunday 6 pm.”

The indefinite protest has been called by truckers' to register their protest against the sharp increase in the third party insurance premium, from Rs 20,000 to Rs 40,000.

The strike is near total in all the five southern states, including Puducherry, and has incurred a revenue loss of Rs 7,700 crore, he said.

IRDA authorities have invited us for a meeting on Monday at 3 pm in Hyderabad. We are pinning our hopes on it and if our demands aren't met our protest will continue, Shanmugappa said.
