DC Impact: Nizam era bowlis water report moves Lokayukta

Lokayukta has called for action and planning reports from the GHMC and the HMDA.

Hyderabad: Responding to the report on the Nizam era drinking water sources in these columns on Saturday, the Lokayukta has called for action and planning reports from the GHMC and the HMDA, Water Board, collectors of Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts for protecting water bodies.

The Lokayukta said in a press release that the report “Nizam’s drinking water source filled with garbage” stated that 63 wells were lying in neglect and they could be made into water harvesting pits.

“The said wells of the Nizam era quenched thirst of the people living in several areas of the city of Hyderabad and the surrounding areas and some of the names of the said water bodies are specifically stated,” the Lokayukta said.

The Lokayukta directed the officers to restore the wells, ponds, tanks and water bodies in the view of the acute water shortage in the city. It asked the officers to identify who was authority to deal with the situation and sought a report by April 27.
