Two factory workers accused of being illegal Bangladeshi immigrants

Mysuru police have written to the Indian embassy in Bangladesh to ascertain their credentials

Mysuru: The police arrested two factory workers on the suspicion that they are illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. The arrests were made Saturday but disclosed today.

Identified as Muhammed Abdullah (27) and Muhammed Imaanmulla (23), the two men were employed at the Thaandya industrial estate near Nanjanagud. They had Aadhaar cards issued in Bengaluru, police said.

They were staying at Immavu village near Nanjangud. Initially and claimed that they were from Bengaluru. However, they have confessed that their native place is Saam Nagar, Shirgul Gate in Saathkira district of Bangladesh.

The Mysuru police have written to Indian embassy in Bangladesh as well as the External Affair Ministry to verify the credentials of the two men so that they could be deported.

The Nanjangud rural police have registered a suo motu case under provisions of the Passport Act 1976 and the Foreigners Act 1946. They are in judicial custody as an investigation is going on.

Police claimed to have intelligence that more such illegal immigrants are working in factories in the area. They have called a meeting with representatives of factories in the industrial estates around Nanjanagud on Wednesday.
