Visakhapatnam: Doctors have advice for exam season
Visakhapatnam: In view of Intermediate examinations and CBSE Board exams having started already and the state board exams about to commence in a couple of weeks, psychologists urge parents not to put undue stress on their children for better score in the exams.
Instead, parents were asked to support the students in relieving the pressure.
Ahead of exams, students start feeling stressed, usually in the revision period and the tension keeps mounting day by day during exams.
As a result, some students suffer from shallow breathing, excessive sweating, muscle tension, palpitations, sleeplessness and nightmares. Psychology experts suggested effective ways to handle exam stress at a scientific seminar organised by Child Rights Protection Forum here on Saturday.
During the seminar, child Neuro psychiatrist B. Ramesh Babu said: “The secret of success depend on how a student can withstand stress. One can overcome exam fear by proper preparation, time management and relaxation through yoga. Balanced diet and good sleep also play a major role.
He had some tips for the parents to increase the performance of students not only in exams but also in any situation of life. Pointing out the importance of latest therapies, Dr Ramesh Babu advised parents to go for counselling to learn more techniques in handling exam phobia, school absenteeism, depression and thyroid problems.
Another child psychologist, K. Jagga Rao, spoke on breathing techniques and lifestyle changes for students to excel in exams. He shared some tips to recall memory from brain storage.
Dr Jagga Rao advised students to choose easy digestible food items during exams, and asked them to avoid non-vegetarian food as it may affect functioning of the brain.
