Vijayawada: Election Commission will treat election campaign videos put in the YouTube under election expenses and EC has been surveying the social media, during the elections, to restrain illegalities by the candidates.

AP Chief Electoral Officer Gopala Krishna Dwivedi conducted a meeting of Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) in the Secretariat at Velagapudi and explained about the norms and rules during elections.

Mr Dwivedi said that EC has been concentrating on candidates’ expenditures, paid articles and social media campaigns and directed the MCMC nodal officers to continuously monitor the campaigns without fail.

He said that the election expenditure would be huge in AP State elections and election observers will come from the Central Election Commission to monitor the situation. He directed the district collectors concerned to begin MCMC monitoring centres in 13 districts of the State and directed the MCMC to continuously monitor the campaigns.

He directed MCMC to register a complaint with the police against paid articles. Mr Dwivedi said that the campaigns in the YouTube would be considered as election expenditure and stated that candidates will have to take pre-certification from the EC, if they want to use YouTube for their campaign.
