Kurnool: YSRC leaders' visit stopped by police
Kurnool: Jammalamadugu constituency in Kadapa district appears to be beyond the reach of YSR Congress party leaders who are allegedly not allowed to visit there to campaign for their leaders. On Saturday, Y.S. Avinash Reddy, former MP of Kadapa, and Sudheer Reddy, an aspirant for Jammalamadugu MLA seat, were kept under house arrest by police citing security reasons for their action.
Avinash Reddy and Sudheer Reddy were scheduled to visit Sugumanchipalle village, stronghold of minister C. Adinarayana Reddy, and participate in Raavali Jagan - Kaavali Jagan programme organised by local activists.
Police informed them that TD leader and former MLC C Narayana Reddy, brother of minister C. Adinarayana Reddy, was also scheduled to visit Sugumanchipalle.
Citing security reasons, both party leaders were asked not to visit the place which is sensitive and prone to faction clashes.
Around six months back, Avinash Reddy and Sudheer Reddy were prevented from entering Gorigenur village citing security reasons. Police had imposed Section 144 for more than 10 days. Avinash Reddy, however, moved High Court of Andhra Pradesh and obtained a direction to the police to facilitate their visit.
While Avinash Reddy was kept under house arrest in Pulivendula, Sudheer Reddy was kept at his native Nidjeevi village near Yerraguntla in Kadapa district.
Narasimha Reddy, a local leader at Jammalamadugu, said that the YS family had been trying to gain control over Jammlamadugu since 1984.
He recalled how Y.S. Raja Reddy, father of former Chief Minister late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, was detained for more than 24 hours at a house by followers of P. Siva Reddy, then minister in TD, at a village near Jammalamadugu.
Jammalamadugu politics is different from Pulivendula politics, said Narasimha Reddy. The families of Rama Subba Reddy, nephew of P. Siva Reddy, were a dominant force to reckon with in Jammlamadugu area, he said. Citing instances, he said that it is always better for Pulivendula leaders propped up by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy not to come to Jammlamadugu and vitiate the peaceful atmosphere prevailing here.
