Kasargod: The home department removed the investigation officer of Periya twin murder on Saturday. In place of SP V.M. Muhammed Rafeeq, present investigation officer, crime branch SP Sabu Mathew will lead the team. Muhammed Rafeeq will continue in the team.

One DYSP and two circle inspectors also were removed from the team. DySP Shaju Jose and circle inspectors C.K. Sunil Kumar and Ramesan were removed.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has come out heavily against the move. “The investigation officer was removed as the investigation would expose the role of CPM in the twin murder”.

Inaugurating the fund collection drive to assist the families of the slain workers here on Satu-rday, Mr Chennithala said that the government is trying to divert the case and the changing of the team leader is aimed at scuttling the progress. “CPM is trying to protect the real assassins”, he said.

Meanwhile KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran alleged that the move is to torpedo the ongoing investigation which would put CPM in a fix. Answering to the queries of reporters after the inauguration of the fund collection drive,  Mr Rama-chandran said that the stand of CPM was suspicious even from the beginning of the investigation. “We are not at all satisfied with the progress of the investigation so far”, he added.
