Chavara CI to probe boy's murder
Thiruvananthapuram: Chavara Thekkumbhagom Circle Inspector S. Chandradas will probe the death of Ranjith, 17, an ITI student, who was allegedly attacked by his neighbour and Kollam prison officer Vineeth on February 14. The boy, who was under treatment at a private hospital here, died on Thursday. The autopsy revealed that he died due to internal haemorrhage. He had sustained injuries on his head.
Ranjith was beaten at his home at Chavara by a gang of six people led by Vineeth, 30, Kollam district jail warden, at 10.30 in the night alleging that the boy had eve-teased the daughter of CPM Arinalloor branch secretary Sarasan Pillai. Ranjith's relatives and eyewitnesses alleged that the attackers included Sarasan Pillai.
Vineeth, who belongs to Thevalakkara Arinalloor Mallakathu Kizhakkathil house, was arrested and remanded in custody by the Sasthamkotta magistrate. Ms R. Sreelekha, jail DGP, has suspended Vineeth.
The Congress Kollam leadership alleged that the real culprits were absconding. Ranjith's father Radhakrishnan said that though the Chavara Thekkumbhagam police station was informed about the attack, they did not bother to inquire.
CPM Thevalakkara north local secretary Madhu alleged that Vineeth and his family are Congress activists. The local CPM leadership said that Sarasan Pillai was targeted in view of the Lok Sabha polls.
"Sarasan Pillai was at Chavara area committee office when the incident took place," said Madhu.
