Telangana: Summer to be a nightmare for naxals

In the districts of north Telangana and the borders of the state, a number of Maoists have been killed.

KARIMNAGAR: The CPI Maoist cadres battling against the government are suffering losses due to the joint action by state police and the hot summer temperatures that make drinking water scarce in the forests where they hide out.

In the districts of north Telangana and the borders of the state, a number of Maoists have been killed.

The Greyhound police of Telangana and the special police of Maharas-htra and Chhattisgarh regularly conduct combing operations on interstate borders to compress the Maoists into smaller spaces. Coordination between state police forces has improved in the past two years which has shown better results in policing.

The coming summer months will be tough for the guerrillas who hide out in the forests. Apart from the scarcity of drinking water, most forests in these areas are deciduous which means they shed their leaves annually, usually in summer, providing less cover and exposing the movements of the Maoists.

The state government is focusing on Maoist movement along the state’s borders because of the irrigation projects that are coming up here, such as the Kaleshwaram, and the Pranahitha-Chevella on the river Godavari and Penganga and Prana-hitha in the old Adilabad, Karimnagar districts.
