Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Road Transport (KSRTC), which suffered losses previous year, has made a turnaround and recorded a profit of '10.29 crore.
KSRTC Managing Director S.R. Umashankar told the media on Friday, "We had incurred losses of up to Rs 138 crore the previous year. But from February 2017 to till date, we have made a profit of '10.29 crore, despite a hike in diesel prices and the cost of staff. It is a big achievement to register profits after suffering a loss. It is the sheer hard work of every employee working for the KSRTC."
He said that in the last one year, 415 new schedules and 1,621 new buses were added. Fifteen new bus stations and four new bus depots were also constructed.
Currently, a training centre at Malavalli and three new bus stations are under construction. "The medical facility which was only provided to IAS, IPS, IFS and KAS officers, which is the Master Cardiac and Health Checkup facility, will now be provided to KSRTC employees who are 40 years and above. This initiative has been taken up in collaboration with Jayadeva Hospitals and it is a compulsory free annual health checkup," he said.
He also said that they have entrusted the maintenance of bus stations, urinals and toilets in the jurisdiction of Bangalore Central, Ramanagar and Mandya divisions to Sulabh International, an NGO, to provide better facilities to the travelling public.
"We have implemented various other projects and schemes for the welfare of both the passengers and employees of KSRTC," he added.
