Bengaluru: Even as the Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers are busy inaugurating the projects across the city, residents of Kaikondarahalli are planning a human chain on Saturday to demand fair monetary compensation for Sarjapur Road widening.
Bhagath Reddy, a resident of Kaikondarahalli told Deccan Chronicle that the BBMP will take up widening of the road from Iblur junction to Karmelaram near Sarjapur. The project would put residents and commuters in this part of the city in great distress as the BBMP has not got desired land for road widening.
Of the 20 acres of land required for the road widening the BBMP does not even have 20 per cent on hand. With this, the project is likely to hit deadlock and disrupt normal traffic flow.
Further, the BBMP must provide adequate monetary compensation in lieu of the land acquired for the project, he said. The BBMP has been promising to issue Transferable Development Rights (TDR), instead of monetary compensation. Where should the property losers go? How should they repay the loans? What should they do for their livelihood if their property like houses and shops are taken over, he questioned.
Reddy further explained that even the Sarjapur road widening will not ease the problem, unless traffic congestion at the junctions at Haralur, Kasavanahalli, Halanayakanahalli and Doddakannahalli are addressed.
Metro is the only solution to the traffic problem. Unfortunately, the Metro project announced under the third phase would not start off any time soon.
