M.K.Stalin wants measures to get nod for Neet bill

Stalin also urged the centre to take steps for exempting Tamil Nadu students from Neet.

Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Thursday appealed to the state government to approach the centre to get the President’s assent before May 7 for the state’s bill to exempt Tamil Nadu students from Neet. Stalin also urged the centre to take steps for exempting Tamil Nadu students from Neet, in a statement here. He alleged that the AIADMK government had not shown interest in getting the President’s approval for the unanimous bill passed in the state Assembly. The ruling party’s petition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against Neet is just an ‘eye wash’, he said and added that the AIADMK is not interested in protecting the student's welfare.

Though, many of the students had applied for appearing in Neet, several students had not submitted their applications, Stalin said and added that lakhs of students are waiting for May 7 with confusion and stress. Stalin said the last date for applying for Neet examination had ended on March 1 and the examination would be held on May 7 for admission to MBBS and BDS courses. It has been announced that students would be admitted to all the medical colleges functioning under the state government, private and deemed universities for MBBS and BDS courses through the Neet examinations. Such an examination would deprive the rural students and the poor students in urban areas from joining medical courses, he said. He recalled that it was the DMK government which cancelled entrance exams for professional courses in 2007 through a special legislation which obtained the President’s assent.
