Hyderabad: The GHMC has clarified in a RTI (Right to Information) reply, that no ward committee has been formed as yet. “The process is under way with the nomination of ward committee members by the corporation an its special meeting,” the GHMC has said.Those who wrongly claim that they are members of ward committees are mostly the henchmen of local elected representatives. There have been complaints that these people are interfering in civic matters, particularly in the matter of construction and other lucrative projects. Many have the gall to put up banners and flexes claiming that they have been appointed ward committee members.
The corporation has received some 5,000 applications for 1,473 ward committee member posts. A ward committee consists of a member of the corporation representing the ward corporator who will be the chairperson of the committee. Not more than 10 members from civil society can be nominated. If there are more than 10 eligible nominations, GHMC will nominate the required number of persons by voice vote. Of the 10 members, two will be nominated from registered residents’ welfare associations. If there is no such person, a member of a registered tax payers’ association and two members from a slum development federation or representative of a senior most self-help group in the ward will be selected.
