Hyderabad: Backward Classes asked not to finalise its report

Justice A. Ramalingeswara Rao was hearing a petition by city resident Sasidhar, questioning the methodology adopted by the BC Commission.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has issued notice to the Telangana Commission for Backward Classes on a petition seeking to direct the panel not to finalise its report and recommendations.Justice A. Ramalingeswara Rao was hearing a petition by city resident Sasidhar, questioning the methodology adopted by the BC Commission.Stating that he belonged to the BC community, the petitioner alleged that the commission had adopted an illegal method to determine the backwardness among Muslims. He told the court that the commission had granted only two days to the citizens to respond to the report of the Sudheer Commission report, which runs into nearly 400 pages.

The petitioner said that he had sought the data which was relied upon by the Sudheer Commission from the BC Commission. He contended that without providing such data, the citizens cannot be asked to simply say yes or no to the findings of the Sudheer Commission, which is a non-statutory body. He said that the BC Commission was expected to devise its own criteria and not confine itself to responses to the Sudheer Commission. The judge granted two weeks to the commission to file its counter affidavit.
