Preserve bodies of maoists: Hyderabad High Court

While posting the hearing to Thursday, the bench directed the police to preserve the bodies till further orders.

Hyderabad: The High Court on Wednesday directed the TS police to preserve the bodies of eight Maoists killed in an encounter in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on March 1. A division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao was dealing with a petition by Prof. G. Laxman, president of the Civil Liberties Committee.

The petitioner was seeking to declare the killing of the eight Maoists, including three women, by paramilitary forces as illegal and in violation of Articles 14 and 21. The petitioner urged the court to direct the authorities to preserve the bodies after conducting postmortem with a team of forensic experts and also in accordance with NHRC guidelines and hand over the bodies to family members of the alleged Maoists. While posting the hearing to Thursday, the bench directed the police to preserve the bodies till further orders.
