Kerala High Court: Status quo ordered on CIC posting

The court order will be applicable to the appointment of other state information commissioners.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala High Court on Wednesday asked government to maintain status quo for two weeks on the proposed appointment of former Vigilance Director Vinson M Paul as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).

Justice A. Muhammed Mustaque issued the directive and issued notices to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Minister P. K. Kunhalikutty and Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan the members of the selection panel.

The court order will be applicable to the appointment of other state information commissioners. Court issued the order on a petition filed by S Somanathan Pillai challenging the recommendation to appoint Chief Information Officer and others Information Officers.

The petitioner contended that they lack qualification for being appointed to the post. The petitioner an applicant for the post contended that he was not even considered for the post and no selection process worth the name was conducted before making recommendations to the post by the committee.
