KALABURAGI: A gang of four robbers entered a private finance company office located on the city outskirts in broad daylight on Wednesday and made away with gold jewellery and cash worth crores of rupees, after holding the staff at gun point. According to police complaint, the gang entered the Muthoot finance branch, situated at Jayanagar, posing as customers. The employees were shocked when the gang members brandished guns and other deadly weapons.
They huddled the employees in a corner and barged into the strong room. They looted gold jewellery, worth over Rs 2 crore, and Rs 3 lakh in cash, before fleeing in their vehicles.
A police team, led by IGP Shivakumar and SP Dr Amit Singh, rushed to the spot after being alerted by Muthoot staff. They took finger prints and dog squads were pressed into service.
Amit Singh said the police were verifying the CCTV footage for possible clues and three teams have been constituted to trace the culprits. It may be recalled that a similar incident of robbery had taken place in another branch of the Muthoot Finance in the City two years ago. The police have not been able to crack that case where jewellery and cash were stolen.
