More two-wheeler riders wore helmets on the second day as the police intensified their efforts to enforce helmets by conducting checks in the city.As many as 5,500 cases were booked by 8 pm on Wednesday for violation of the helmet rule compared to 4,500 cases on the first day, i.e. Tuesday.“We have intensified the drive against helmet rule violation and it will continue,” said a traffic cop.

Though no survey was taken up traffic cops said the use of helmets have increased among two-wheeler riders on Wednesday. “Many bikers wore helmets. We used to get 7 out of 10 bikers without helmets on an average at Patny junction. Today, 6 to 7 bikers out of 10 were wearing helmets,” said Mahankali traffic SI Ramanaiah.

The sales of helmets picked up as bikers thronged showrooms.S. Niranjan, who was returning after appearing for his Intermediate examination said he found helmets are cheaper online."I and my friends booked helmets through Flipkart and Amazon. The showrooms are quoting over Rs 2,000 for a decent helmet and bargaining would bring down the cost to Rs 1,500. It is better to purchase them online," he said.
