Andhra Pradesh first to have IoT policy

State aims to share $1.5 billion of India's IoT target by 2020.

Vijayawada: With an aim to achieve $1.5-billon share in India’s $15-billon target by 2020, Andhra Pradesh Cabinet approved and resolved the ‘Andhra Prdesh Internet of Things Policy 2016-20’ on Wednesday.

This makes AP the first state in country to have a policy for IoT, for which the Government of India made a policy in 2014. With this policy, the state government not only aims to make AP a perfect destination for IoT entities and augment GDP of the state, but also provide employment to 50,000 professionals.

The government has also allowed all entities that come under IoT segment to have women employees in 3-shift operations.

The policy also aims at bringing up 10 IoT hubs with private participation, attract 100 IoT companies to set up units and develop state of the art IoT infrastructure in all major towns in the state. IoT Reasearch & Development, IoT lab integration, IoT device and hardware manufacturing, IoT software applications and analytics would be developed.

The policy is going to provide infrastructure initiatives, incentives like exemption from purview of Pollution Control Act, reimbursement of power cost, stamp duty and others.

The policy also aims at development of human resources by adopting academic reforms and initiatives relating to the industry.

APIIC set to take up 16 industrial projects
The APIIC is set to take up 16 major industrial projects, industrial citi-es and townships across the state.

In a bid to bring these projects at the earliest, the state government has made district collectors responsible to provide land and basic amenities as required, according a press release iss-ued by the government.

As much as two lakh acres of land has been identified across the state and it would be acquired soon.

Seven nodes of development by AP would be connected to the three South India based industrial corridors by central government. The seven nodes include Orvakal, Krishnapatnam, Hindu-pur, Srikalahasti, Yerpe-du, Gannavaram – Kankipadu, Kakinada and Visakhapatnam.

The projects are approved in the recently held collectors’ conference and all the district collectors are put on the job to provide help to the APIIC.
