Wellington Cantonment suspends activist

Nearly two years after the tragedy, Kausalya tied the knot with Parai artist, Sakthi, at a ceremony in Coimbatore in December last.

OOTY: Anti-caste activist, Kausalya, has triggered yet another controversy as the Wellington Cantonment Board administration (WCB) near here, where she is currently employed, suspended her for speaking against the sovereignty of the country.

Kausalya turned a crusader against caste killings after her first husband, Shankar, was hacked to death in Udumalaipet in March 2016, as her family then opposed their marriage as Shankar was a Dalit, while Kausalya hailed from an upper caste.

Nearly two years after the tragedy, Kausalya tied the knot with Parai artist, Sakthi, at a ceremony in Coimbatore in December last.

In between, she had joined the WCB here in late 2016 as lower grade clerk, a post on par with a junior assistant, and now works as accounts assistant, and residing in a house in the Wellington Bazaar area all these days.

On Friday evening, the WCB administration suspended Kausalya. When contacted, WCB chief executive officer, Harish Varma, said that the WCB administration suspended Kauslaya on Friday evening as it received complaints about her speaking against the sovereignty of the nation, at a recent interview given to a TV channel.

He added that a committee will be formed to enquire into the incident and proceed with further action.

Meanwhile, attempts made by DC to contact Kausalya went futile, as she did not respond to calls, while her house in Wellington remained locked on Saturday.
