Plea in Telangana High Court to save tigers in Kawal reserve

Ms Sure the failure to take appropriate measures to protect the tigers in the reserve had led to the death or disappearance of 15-20 tigers.

Hyderabad: A PIL has been filed in the Telangana High Court seeking a direction to the state government to formulate modalities and initiate measures to protect tigers in the Kawal reserve in Adilabad district.

Referring to the killing of a tiger on January 23, Ms Diya Sure, a wildlife conservationist, sought a direction to the government to appoint a committee to conduct an inquiry into the management of the reserve and to curb poaching. Ms Sure the failure to take appropriate measures to protect the tigers in the reserve had led to the death or disappearance of 15-20 tigers. She stated that more than two tigers were killed in one month alone.
