MP K Kavitha, others quit honorary posts
Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLAs and MPs are resigning as honorary presidents of various trade unions, caste and other associations following a direction from party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
After regaining power in the recent Assembly elections, Mr Rao made it clear that no MLA or MP of the party is allowed to continue as office bearer of any trade union or other association.
TRS senior MLA and former minister Mr T. Harish Rao has already resigned as honorary president of the Telangana Majdoor Union.
MP K. Kavitha on Saturday resigned as honorary president of Telangana coal mine workers’ union, Telangana State Vidyuth Karmika Sangham, Telangana aganwadi teachers and helpers association and Telangana recognised schools managements association.
While forwarding his papers to secretaries of the above unions and associations, Ms Kavitha told them that though she received satisfaction in serving the workers, she would not be able to spare much time for them because of her busy schedule. Also, she said, she was quitting from the posts in order to spare more time to her constituency for the ensuing Parliamentary polls.
But she assured her continued support to the associations and trade unions in future.
Sources in the party said that with Mr Harish and Ms Kavitha having resigned, several MLAs, MPs and MLCs who hold honorary posts in various associations and unions are likely to fall in line in the coming days.
