Chennai: A group of IT professionals in the city has taken up farming as a weekend getaway and is using its produce for daily consumption. What started as two men working at Aindanai farms, is now a 10-people-strong team.

The group cultivates kichli samba, karupu kavuni and other such pulses on the land in Kovilanchery near Tambaram.

They also grow tomatoes, ladies finger, brinjal and plantain.

Speaking to DC, the group members say that instead of travelling to far of places and spending money on vain things during weekends, IT professionals can join them and help cultivate crops.

The group takes pride in growing organic, chemical-free crops and also that they consume it entirely.

Urging others to join them, they also believe that farming as a profession and agriculture as a tradition must be conserved.

“We can all sit in IT companies and work, but where will the food come from?” they ask.
