Chennai metro rail barricade falls on two-wheeler rider

Batcha fell on the road and sustained injuries.

Chennai: A man was injured when a metro rail barricade fell on him while he was riding past it on his two-wheeler on Saturday morning.

Police said Iqbal Batcha, 35, a resident of Washermenpet, was travelling on his two-wheeler on Thiruvottiyur High Road when the incident occurred at about 11.30 am near Agarwal Eye Hospital. Batcha fell on the road and sustained injuries.

Personnel from the New Washermenpet police station rushed to the spot and admitted Batcha to the Stanley Government Hospital where he is undergoing treatment. A case was registered against the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for negligence and for causing harm to the public.

The CMRL denied the incident. "We have not heard of such an incident. If it is brought to our notice, necessary action will be taken. But such an incident did not occur to my knowledge," said an official of the CMRL.

In October 2018, a woman sustained severe injuries when a false ceiling fell on her head in a metro Rail station. Cases of injuries to commuters have been reported due to faulty workmanship.
