KSR-Metro foot overbridge by May

Project announced in April 2016, but was stopped midway.

BENGALURU: The long-pending foot over bridge to link Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) railway station with Metro station may soon be a reality as the city division of South Western Railway (SWR) has decided to go ahead with its construction, despite funds crunch.

Though the project was announced in April 2016, it was stopped midway and SWR has blamed BMRCL for the delay. It alleged that though BMRCL was supposed to pay Rs 90 lakh, it has so far sanctioned only Rs 51 lakh.

"The construction of the foot over bridge connecting platform 10 of KSR and the Metro station was held up due to cost issues. Last month, BMRCL finally deposited Rs 51 lakh, though it is insufficient," said R.S Saxena, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru Division.

"We called the contractor agency and they have re-started work. Despite being short of Rs 30 lakh, we are going ahead with the work and it will be completed by mid-May. The accounts can be settled later," Saxena added.

The over bridge was meant to help commuters interchange between the Metro Station on the Purple Line and trains arriving on Platform 9 and 10 of KSR station.

As platform 10 is connected with a pedestrian bridge to Platform 1, it would offer inter-modal connectivity.

Third entry to KSR
Another project which too was in limbo and picked up only recently is the under construction third entry of KSR Station, connecting to a foot over bridge, crossing over Gubbi Thotdappa Road and finally touching the Kemepgowda Metro Station entrance.

"BMRCL had submitted the drawings of the third entry and the bridge connecting the KSR to Kempegowda Metro Station, only on November 11. We cleared their design, agreed to their proposal and have sent it back on November 24. Now, it is up to the BMRCL to complete it," Saxena informed.
