Hyderabad: Retention wall on Yakutpura nala sought

The delay in construction of a retention wall on the nala' at Chandranagar in Yakutpura has begun to irk local residents.

HYDERABAD: The delay in construction of a retention wall on the ‘nala’ at Chandranagar in Yakutpura has begun to irk local residents. The GHMC stopped the works midway about six months ago and hasn’t been taken up since then, locals say.

The nala is about one km long and passes through the Chandranagar locality in the Yakutpura constituency.

“Houses were demolished on a priority basis before the monsoon to widen the nala and build an embankment.

“The civic body widened the nala but didn’t build the retaining wall. Without the wall, the spot has become a risk to the life of children who can fall into the nala,” said Abdul Rahman, a social activist.

“I have contacted several officials and brought the problems to their notice. They assured us to look into the issue, yet nothing is done,” said Mohd Suleiman, a local businessman.

Residents recall instances when reptiles crept into the colony. “On a few occasions snakes crept into the colony. The water channel originates in the hilly areas of Bandlaguda and connects the sewerage system of the Old City with Musi river at Chaderghat,” said a resident.

GHMC executive engineer Jagraam said that they had called for tenders for the nala works.
