Cash-strapped Telangana offices queue up for money
Hyderabad: While there are only two months left in the current financial year, the TS finance department is getting flooded with proposals for release of funds from several departments and institutions. The state government still has to release the last quarter of funds to the many departments.
Contractors are pressing the departments for bill payments, and they in turn are demanding funds from the finance department, which is not in a position to clear the pending bills and also to release the last quarter of funds to the departments.
Officials said funds would be released to departments on priority basis depending on the availability. The government itself has not released its share for Cent-rally-sponsored schemes.
The finance department is yet to release funds to pay even contractors who undertook work in the Global Entrepreneurs Summit. The GHMC has written to it to release Rs 31.67 crore to pay contractors. Contractors bills to the tune of Rs 50 crore for arrangements made for the World Telugu Conference in December are also pending, besides several others, including payment to Warangal Municipal Corporation.
The finance department will require at least about Rs 8,000 crore to release the funds to all other departments in the last quarter. Of this, the state government’s share of responsibility towards Centrally-sponsored schemes is about Rs 2,000 crore.
