AP to get 6 economic cities

The health department was given clearance to seek World Bank aid of Rs 3,365 crore for the all-round strengthening of the sector.

Vijayawada: The State Cabinet on Friday approved the setting up of six economic cities, which would create 1.6 lakh jobs, content and drone corporations, construction of new maternal and child health centre (MCH) at the Government General Hospital, Guntur.

The health department was given clearance to seek World Bank aid of Rs 3,365 crore for the all-round strengthening of the sector. The Cabinet also gave approval for construction of five lakh houses.

The Cabinet cleared formation of the AP Content Corporation, a subsidiary of AP State Fibernet Ltd, whose registered office would be in the NTR Ad-ministrative Block here.

The task of the subsidiary would be to create content for news, employment, infotainment, education, entertainment, health, utility and governance.

Around five lakh houses would be constructed and completed by 2019, at a total cost of Rs 38,265 crore. The Centre would pay Rs 7,500 crore, the state government Rs 13,035 crore and beneficiaries the rest.

Cabinet approval was sought to permit the AP Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation to tie up funds from financial institutions with government guarantee for the loans towards the state share.

The government planned to expand utilisation of drones in various sectors such as police, mining, municipal administration and urban development, agriculture and allied sectors, disaster management, survey, tourism and project/asset monitoring for monitoring, capturing images and videos at high resolution, generation of 2D maps, 3D models and point cloud model. To develop drones, a separate corporation was planned.

The government would collaborate financially with the Guntur Medical College Alumni of North America, to bear the total cost of Rs 65 crore of building the GGH mother and child wi-ng. The MCH project would have a G+5 structure of 300 beds for obstetrics, 200 for paediatrics, 27 for prenatal ICU, 30 for surgical ICU and 40 for Neonatal ICU, 30 faculty rooms and a conference hall.
