Tamil Nadu moves Supreme Court to restrain Kerala from building check dam

Tamil Nadu said Kerala should be injuncted till the Cauvery Management Board comes into force.

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu government has moved the Supreme Court to restrain Kerala from proceeding with the execution of the Attappady Irrigation Scheme and check dams or any other scheme across the river Bhavani and its tributaries in Kerala, without obtaining the prior concurrence of Tamil Nadu.

In an application in the pending Appeals relating to Cauvery tribunal's final award of February 2007, Tamil Nadu said Kerala should be injuncted till the Cauvery Management Board comes into force. It also wanted a direction to Kerala to forthwith stop the works of constructing check dams at Thekkuvattai and Manjikandi and also the preparatory works at Padavayal.
