Tamil Nadu: Ex-chief secretary performs special puja
Thoothukudi: The former chief secretary of Tamil Nadu, Ramamohana Rao, who was removed from his post, following I-T raids on his residence and office, was reported to have performed Sathru Samhara Yagam at Arulmigu Subramaniyaswamy temple at Tiruchendur here. He reached Tiruchendur on Wednesday evening along with his wife Eswari, worshipped at the temple the night and stayed at the temple guest house to perform yagam the early morning of the following day.
He is seeking divine blessings to ward off troubles from detractors. The Thakkar of Arulmigu Subramanyaswamy temple at Tiruchendur, Kottai Manikandan, whose family is very close to former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, is said to have made all arrangements for the yagam. Official sources at the temple however denied this, though HR&CE officials agreed that the former chief secretary and his wife had visited the temple on Wednesday evening. “They attended the morning poojas on Thursday and left for Chennai via Thoothukudi airport,” added officials.
Tiruchendur, believed to be the spot, where Lord Muruga annihilated the demon king Surapadman has been considered an apt place to perform the Sathru Samhara Yagam (yagam to win over enemies). Prominent politicians like Yeddyurappa, JD(S) leader and Devegowda’s son H D Kumarasamy have performed this at Tiruchendur temple earlier. Thirukumaran Natesan, a Sri Lankan national and relative of former Sri Lankan president Rajapaksa, also did it.
