S Ramadoss seeks details of deposited money after demonetisation

PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Thursday asked why the details of money deposited in banks after demonetisation had not been released.

CHENNAI: PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Thursday asked why the details of money deposited in banks after demonetisation had not been released in the Union budget or the economic survey and demanded that the Centre release a white paper with deposit details. He accused that the Centre of is trying to give an impression that demonetisation was done only to encourage cashless transactions. The PMK leader said the Centre should come out with details on how much of the demonetised currency was deposited, besides the explaining the steps to retrieve black money stashed abroad.

The Central government said of the Rs 14.95 lakh crore of demonetised currency, Rs three lakh crore would not be deposited as it would be black money, he pointed out. Since, Rs 12.44 lakh crore of demonetised money has been deposited till December 13 itself, the scheme has failed, he said. The details of bank deposits were released from November 10 to December 13. But why was it stopped after that, he wondered. Ramadoss said he was expecting that the details would be given in the economic survey or the budget, but both the documents did not have any such details.
