Hyderabad: Osmania University Wild Life Zoologists led by Dr Ch Srinivasulu have found a new subspecies of bat — Diadem Leaf-nosed Bat, recorded for the first time from the Andaman Islands caves. The finding has been published in the Journal of Threatened Taxa recently. According to Dr Srinivasulu he and his team has been surveying the Andaman Island group to document its chiropteran diversity since 2012.
“The Diadem Leaf-nosed Bat solitary female specimen was collected from a limestone cave on Baratang Island,” said Dr Srinivasulu.
