Release mark list, pleads activist

Petition to CM's special cell seeks transparency in recruitment of professors.

Chennai: Crying foul over the recruitment process of teaching staff for the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sport University, a social worker based in Chennai has petitioned the Chief Minister’s special cell seeking transparency and the release of mark lists of those aspiring to become professors and associate and assistant professors in the university.

The complaint said university officials were taking steps to recruit staff for sports journalism and communication department that has no student on its rolls as on date.

Similarly, another department (youth affairs and adventure sports) lacks basic infrastructure, but the university has notified the recruitment of two assistant professors for this department, the complainant G. Rahul said.

“These posts fetch a good salary slab ranging from a minimum of Rs 37,400 with allowance and the upper limit can be Rs 67,000 with special allowances. There are efforts to recruit teaching staff without written examinations and this is a gross violation as per the Supreme Court guidelines,” Rahul told DC.

Further, the university advertisement says the university syndicate reserves the right to fill or not to fill the posts without assigning any reason whatsoever.

In the matter of recruitment, the decision of the Syndicate is final and any representation against non-selection will not be entertained under any circumstances and this is fishy, he added.

According to Sports Development Authority sources, M Tech sports technology students who passed out from the sports university have also found gross violations in filling up the posts and have filed a petition in the Madras high court complaining about mismanagement.

TNPESU vice chancellor A. M. Moorthy was not available for comment. When contacted, a highly placed official assured that he would look into the issue to ensure all guidelines are followed in recruitment.
