Chennai: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has identified bogus entries in the final rolls of special summary revision of electoral rolls, 2016, which were released in the state on January 20.
On Monday, DMK MP Kanimozhi submitted a memorandum to the ECI, New Delhi alleging that over 40 lakh bogus entries were found in the rolls. The ECI sent a team to scrutinise the rolls. Principal secretary, ECI, Srivastava arrived at Chennai on Tuesday afternoon and went to Mathurapakkam village panchayat near Tambaram.
In a surprise door to door verification, he identified irregularities and obtained a report from booth level officials stating that there were bogus entries identified in three booths at Mathurapakkam village panchayat.
He has also sent the report to the district collector for further verification. The ECI proposes to conduct such verification drives in other places in the state.
