BBMP recovers Rs 400 crore government land

8 acres of government land taken back in Jaraganahalli, Byrasandra

BENGALURU: Commotion prevailed at Jaraganahalli on Kanakapura Main Road and Byrasandra in Jayanagar when authorities recovered eight acres of government land worth Rs 400 crore on Tuesday.

At Jaraganahalli, authorities recovered 2.24 acres of encroached land on Survey Number 35 that was allegedly encroached upon by the Gopalan Enterprises. Four earthmovers were deployed to recover the land.
As per records, the land is classified as karab katte, which means waste land belonging to the government.

In Byrasandra near Jayanagar, the authorities recovered 5.3 acres of land that was allegedly encroached by one Lakshmamma. The encroached land had a graveyard for the Bhovi community, an open well and a temple. A board displayed at the site claimed that the land belonged to Lakshmamma. It is located behind Peepal Tree Apartments.

The corporation had given compensation to the land owner while acquiring the land in 1990. The authorities alleged that Lakshmamma fabricated documents and continued to squat on the land. Later, the issue was taken to the court and the court directed Assistant Commissioner (South) to verify the documents and take action.

After a survey and detailed verification it was proved that the land originally belonged to the government and a few people had encroached by fabricating documents. Subsequently, the court directed the authorities to recover the land. Besides, DLR Builder too had claimed the ownership of the land, sources said.
The authorities recovered the property and removed the board. Interestingly, three parties have claimed the ownership of property at Byrasandra.
