Will fill up vacancies in HC, says Ravi Shankar Prasad

Mr Prasad said that as per the procedure, the Centre would take appropriate steps to increase the number of judges in the High Court.

Hyderabad: Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday assured that the Centre would examine increasing the strength of judges in the Telangana High Court.

The law minister was replying to a question from TRS MP Vinod Kumar in Parliament with regard to fullfilling the vacancies in the Telangana High Court.

Mr Prasad said that as per the procedure, the Centre would take appropriate steps to increase the number of judges in the High Court.

Earlier, the Mr Prasad, while replying to a question from Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, said that it was up to the High Courts in the states to take steps to fill up vacant posts in subordinate courts.

Mr. Owaisi asked the minister whether the Centre had been contemplating any Centralised mechanism for filling up vacancies in subordinate courts across the country. Mr. Prasad replied that the Centre was proposing a centralised recruitment system for filling up the posts of additional district judges. He said that through this, the Centre was planning to select law students from National Law Schools for the posts of additional district judges.
