New bus shelters to make Metro ride cheap
Hyderabad: To strengthen the public transport in the city, the GHMC is mulling to integrate bus shelters with Metro stations as commuters currently have to use private vehicles, cabs and autos to reach Metro stations, making the journey on the new rail network expensive.
According to a GHMC official, the corporation will construct 826 modern bus shelters in four phases at the cost of Rs 8.50 crore under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode before integrating them with the Metro Rail network.
It has come to the notice of the corporation that the Metro journey has become expensive for commuters since bus shelters are located far away from the 24 Metro stations on the Nagole-Miyapur stretch.
Commuters are currently depending on the private transport to reach Metro stations.
The proposed bus shelters will have facilities for passenger information system, side-walk, ramp and other amenities like Wi-Fi, ATMs and coffee vending machines.
Uni Ads Private Limited has bagged the tender to set up 219 bus shelters in the phase 1.
