Vijayawada: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is getting ready to quiz the YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy between January 20 and 23. Highly placed sources said that the ED may question Mr Jagan Reddy with regard to Mauritius transactions.
It is learnt that these developments took place following reported pressure from TD national presdient N. Chandrababu Naidu, which prompted the NDA government to decide to intensify the inquiry against Mr Reddy.
In fact, the NDA government at the Centre has been going slow on Mr Reddy’s cases for the last two and half years, a TD leader said. The ED will examine the evidences everyday on the said dates and will take a final call over the case.
“The recent stays issued to Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy have nothing to do with the ED inquiry,” a senior officer said and added that both the issues are independent of each other.
Following a rise in the activities of the YSRC cadres in the recent past over several public issues, the TD top leadership felt that Mr Reddy’s activity should be curtailed and accordingly, exerted pressure over the Union government to do ‘something’.
A few Union ministers were personally briefed by the TD top brass about the same and they were also told about the feelings of the Chief Minister that despite being the allied partner, their ‘grievances’ were not being addressed properly.
The TD leadership also conveyed a message to the BJP that in case Mr Reddy further strengthened his base in the State, both the TD and BJP will have to face defeat in 2019.
Following the pressure from their allied partner, the BJP has decided to break the silence with regard to the CBI and ED cases filed against Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy.
“The BJP national leadership also took a note on the YSRC’s programmes against demonetisation, special status and special package,” a BJP MP said and added that accordingly, the BJP leaders also have taken a serious stand against Mr Reddy. The YSRC leaders and activists, it is learnt, are trying to organise protest demonstrations soon against the Centre for not granting special status.
