A day after 17 persons were killed, 2 more persons fell to road accidents in Odisha

The deceased were reportedly from Jajpur and Bhadrak districts

Bhubaneswar: Two persons were killed and another person sustained critical injuries as a car they were travelling in rammed into a truck at Pahal on the outskirts of Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar late Friday night

The deceased were reportedly from Jajpur and Bhadrak districts.

The critically injured person was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Reports said the car carrying three persons was en route to Bhubaneswar from Cuttack when it rammed the stationary truck near Pahala. As a result, while two persons died on the spot, another one sustained critical injuries.

“Sushil Kar, one of the deceased, had called his elder brother on Saturday night that they had met with an accident. We came to know about the accident this morning and rushed to the spot only to find him dead. We are in a state of shock after the incident,” said a relative of Sushil.

Sushil Kar had a transport business. He bought vegetables and delivered them to his home on Saturday night. He was going with his friends in the car when the accident happened near Pahal, the relative informed.

On Friday, as many as 17 people had lost their lives in separate road accidents when the state was observing the first day of the zero fatality week.

Eight people were killed when the van in which they were travelling hit a stationary truck from behind near Balijodi under the Ghatagaon Police limits of Keonjhar district.

Similarly, three people died in three separate road mishaps at Gelpur in Bhadrak, Chinimahula in Sambalpur, and Anandapur in Keonjhar.

Later in the evening, six more people lost their lives in separate road mishaps across the state.

Despite several awareness programmes organised by the Odisha government, the number of deaths due to road accidents is hardly showing any decline in its trend.
