Lavish wedding! Vijayanagar Anand Singh’s son ties knot, EC watches

People attending the wedding had the joy of feasting on Rajput and south Indian dishes.

Ballari: By-poll bound Vijayanagar assembly constituency in the district witnessed one of the most lavish weddings in the recent past on Sunday.

BJP candidate for Vijayanagar Anand Singh’s son Sidharth Singh tied the nuptial knot with Sanjana, daughter of businessman Prabhu Sabarad of Bengaluru on the occasion. Though Mr Singh had invited criticism from his political opponents for his lavish spending on his son's wedding which coincided with the by-poll in Vijayanagar constituency, he however went ahead and constructed 'Nandagokula' in an 8 acre piece of land and could have created a new world record for the wedding.

The set was designed in such a way making it look like the entrance of the famed Tirupati Venkateshwara temple and was also built in the Vijayanagar style of architecture. A massive main entrance decorated with art work and flowers was erected while two separate pendals were set up for the marriage and reception.

People attending the wedding had the joy of feasting on Rajput and south Indian dishes. Though CM B.S. Yediyurappa gave the wedding a miss, his deputy Govind Karjol, minister J.C. Madhuswamy and BJP MLA Somashekhar Reddy attended the wedding. Except for Congress MLCs K.C. Kondaiah and Allum Veerabhadrappa, no other Congress senior leader attended the wedding as the party had petitioned the Election Commission demanding that the wedding be postponed as it would amount to violation of the election code of conduct.

Meanwhile, the EC deployed its officials at the wedding venue who monitored the event and checked vehicles and bags of guests, amid reports that Mr Singh was giving costly gifts to guests.
