It was my idea to attend Congress legislature party: H D Kumaraswamy

On Saturday, Mr Kumaraswamy, however, told the media: “It is my idea to attend this meeting.

Hyderabad: In a politically significant move intended to mend fences with his detractors in Congress, Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy will attend a meeting of Congress legislature party (CLP) on December 8 and address the concerns of all legislators.

His decision to attend a meeting of the CLP comes a day after coordination committee chairman Mr Siddaramaiah's suggestion that Mr Kumaraswamy should address the problems of Congress legislators.

On Saturday, Mr Kumaraswamy, however, told the media: “It is my idea to attend this meeting. I had broached this issue with co-ordination committee chairman, Siddaramaiah, as well as with KPCC president, Dinesh Gundurao, some time ago. As head of the coalition government, I feel I should attend to their problems as well. There is nothing wrong in hearing them out patiently.”

According to him, this move would help strengthen the bonds between coalition partners.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of reports that several Congress MLAs have aired their reservations to senior leaders of the party on functioning of the coalition government, including that of non-accessibility of the Chief minister, lack of release of funds for developmental projects in their respective constituencies.

The Chief Minister's move to address Congress legislators would also help reduce the tension in Congress with a growing number of ministerial aspirants, according to sources in the party. The interaction with Congress legislators would be the second since the coalition government assumed office in May 2018. Mr Kumaraswamy had addressed them soon after the Congress, which emerged the second largest party in Assembly polls held earlier this year, announced its decision to extend support to JD (S) for formation of the government.
