Centre releases Rs 353.70 crore interim relief to Gaja-hit Tamil Nadu

Chennai: The Union Home Ministry has released an interim relief of Rs 353.70 crore to Tamil Nadu to take up the relief works in the Cyclone Gaja ravaged districts in the state. Gaja had left a trail of havoc when it crossed the coast on Nov. 16, causing extensive damages to 12 districts.

Following an interim memorandum submitted by the State Government seeking additional assistance, the Centre constituted an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) on Nov. 20 and it visited the cyclonic affected areas from Nov. 23 to 27. The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the release of second installment of Central Share of State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) amounting to Rs 353.70 crore for the year 2018-19, as an interim relief to help the State in providing relief measures to the affected people.
