Bengaluru: A 40-year-old man killed his seven-year-old specially-abled son and later hanged himself at his house in Chandrappa Layout in MS Layout on Saturday.

The police said that the incident might have occurred in the morning but came to light around 2.30 pm when the wife of the deceased, Chandrashekhar, and his daughter returned home.

Chandrashekhar worked at a garment factory in Yelahanka and was suffering from diabetes. He is survived by wife Pramila and daughter Dhanya. The son, Lokeshwar, was disabled.

A senior police officer said that they were informed about the murder-suicide in the afternoon. A police team was rushed to the spot and they found the body of the child in the room, where he was smothered to death. Chandrashekhar too was found hanging from the ceiling in the same room.

The police found a suicide note by Chandrashekhar which said that he is ending his son's life and killing himself as the son's disability and his own illness were taking a toll on him.

Chandrashekhar had consulted doctors, who had told him that his diabetes could not be controlled. He was also depressed that his son could not walk because of the disability.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to a government hospital for postmortem. The Vidyaranyapura police registered a case and are investigating.
