Telangana: Maoist leader arrested
Warangal: CPI(ML) New Democracy party district secretary Danasari Sammaiah alias Gopi, 49, has been arrested by the police at Mahbubabad on Friday. Showing the arrest, Superintendent of Police N. Koti Reddy said the arrested Maoist leader has been underground for the past 30 years and belonged to Enchagudem in Kothaguda mandal.
The district police have on Thursday raided a house in Rajiv Nagar Colony in the town during afternoon hours. Gopanna managed to escape from the house. But the police have launched an intensive combing operation and caught him at Kothur in Mahabubabad mandal late night. The police seized one 8 mm rifle, 8 mm rifle magazine, 10 live rounds, one pouch and a kitbag from his possession.
He was involved in a exchange of fire with the police in 2004, murder of two persons in 2012 in Gudur mandal, blasted a belt shop and assaulted a person in 2010 at Kothaguda mandal. The SP said the arrested naxal was extorting money from tendu leaf contractors, civil contractors and petty traders. He appealed to people to inform the police about the movement of armed squads that were indulging in extortions and unlawful activities. He wanted the underground cadre to give up arms and join the mainstream.
