Bengaluru: Incessant rains affected power supply across the city on Friday. In many areas, there was no power from Thursday evening till Friday evening.

A senior Bescom official said, “Because of incessant rains, the feeder systems malfunctioned across the city, which resulted in constant power disruption. Officials and linemen were informed, who worked to ensure that the power is restored.”

J.P. Nagar, Basavanagudi, Jayanagar, BTM Layout, Peenya, Banashankari, K.R. Puram, Indiranagar, Banaswadi and other surrounding areas suffered power disruptions.

He said that South Bengaluru suffered the most as power cuts were for a long time, while the rest of the city had short-duration disruptions. “The officials also ensured that the feeders do not develop any problems and monitored them constantly. There will be no power disruption once the rain stops. In all, 6,258 complaints were received, of which 5,255 were attended to, while 690 are pending," the official said.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDC) predicted chilly winds accompanied by a low to moderate rainfall over the next two days.

Cyclone Ockhi, caused by a depression over the southern Bay of Bengal, had an effect on the city, and Bengalureans woke up to a rainy and chilly morning.
“While southern parts of Kerala will receive heavy rainfall, certain parts of Bengaluru will witness light to moderate rainfall,” said KSNDC director Srinivas Reddy.
