Telangana government gets time to counter plea
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday facilitated the Telangana state government to file an affidavit explaining the steps being taken by district collectors regarding fixing of market value of lands before issuing notification for acquisition of lands by granting it time till Tuesday.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice A. Shankar Narayana was dealing with a PIL by Congress former MLA M. Kodanda Reddy, seeking to declare as illegal the inaction of the respondents to revise and update the market value of the lands in rural areas of the state and to correct anomalies in the market values.
When the petition came up for hearing, Telangana state advocate-general K. Ramakrishna Reddy sought time to file the affidavit.
Counsel appearing for the petitioner, while urging the bench not to grant time, told the court that while seeking adjournments, the government was issuing notifications to acquire lands for different projects without revising the market value.
Reacting to the submission of counsel, the bench said it will expedite hearing of the case. The bench adjourned the case after asking the A-G to file the counter affidavit.
