He is stable and being treated by a team of doctors.

CHENNAI: DMK chief M. Karunanidhi was admitted to Kauvery Hospital on Thursday for ‘optimisation of nutrition and hydration”. He is stable and being treated by a team of doctors, a medical bulletin from the hospital said and added that he would be in the hospital for a few days. The DMK headquarters too came out with a statement stating that Karunanidhi would be in the hospital for a few days and requested party cadre, friends and visitors not to come in person to meet him.

The party release said the DMK leader was treated for 'allergic reactions' and was resting. He needed more medical tests and treatment, besides adding that he was admitted to hospital following the advice of doctors. Karunanidhi was not seen in public for more than a month, but he was giving statements on major issues from home. His photograph was released when party general secretary K. Anbazhagan visited him. His face and hands looked swoll-en in photograph leading to doubts over his health.

Karunanidhi's illness had brought his estranged elder son M.K. Alagiri into the family. The party too is moving towards a transformation of power at the top level and the elevation of party treasurer M.K. Stalin with Alagiri's consent. The party's executive committee and general council meetings will be held this mo-nth and Karunanidhi has not missed any of those meetings till now.
