Excise cop suspended for violating poll code

Warangal: An excise constable has been suspended for inaction and negligence in checking illegal liquor sales by a wine shop in violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) in view of the ensuing elections in Eturnagaram mandal of Mulugu district on Wednesday.

District Election Officer Ila Tripathi issued the suspension order against constable Naveen, following a probe based on the complaints through C-Vigil app and local media.

The DEO said that the constable, who was assigned the duty to prevent unauthorised liquor outlets in his jurisdiction, conducted inspections for the namesake and took no action against one Balaji Wine Shop which stored liquor in bulk to sell it to belt shops. He said the illegal sale, transportation and distribution of liquor would come under violation of the poll code. He also warned against running belt shops in the interior agency areas of Mulugu district.
