Kozhikode: Local self-governments minister A.C. Moideen will inaugurate Kudumbashree's 13th Buds School and rehabilitation centre in Wayanad district on November 5.
George M. Thomas MLA will preside over the function where district panchayath president Babu Parassery will be the chief guest.
The school was built with Rs 30 lakh from the Puduppadi panchayath and Rs 25 lakh the Kudumbashree Mission.
The school comprises classrooms, physiotherapy centre, hi-tech play area and fully furnished kitchen.
Kudumbashree started Buds institutions to avoid stigmatising the mentally challenged. The school in Venganoor panchayat opened in Thiruvananthapuram district in 2004 was the first one.
Kudumbashree representative Beena said with the policy focus on inclusive and integrated education, more and more mentally challenged children had begun to enrol in government schools.
It provided the mentally challenged children with an opportunity for schooling in an inclusive atmosphere where they can learn up to the age of 18.
However, there was no institution to take care of the mentally challenged above the age of 18 especially in rural areas which became another problem and issue for their families....
